The Gambia Police Force, in partnership with DCAF, has successfully concluded a year-long Gender Promotion Initiative, marking a significant step in advancing gender inclusivity within the force.
The event marking the conclusion of the training was today held at the Sir DKJ Conference Centre, where the Inspector General of Police, Seedy M. Touray, expressed appreciation to DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector – for its continuous support. He also recognised the achievements of female officers within the GPF and challenged them to take on greater leadership roles in policing.
However, the event was graced by distinguished guests, including Ken Isaac, Head of DCAF, H.E. Landing Kinteh, who represented the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Representative of the Ministry of Interior, and Raphaël Brigandi, EU Deputy Head of Mission, as well as facilitator Madam Isatou Ndow of The Gambia College. Each of them reaffirmed their commitment to promoting gender inclusivity in security institutions.
“As part of this initiative, 20 female officers participated in specialized training, equipping them with essential skills for professional growth. Fifteen (15) of them have recently been promoted to their next ranks, while the remaining officers will be promoted in due course,” he stated.
IGP Touray reaffirmed GPF’s commitment to gender mainstreaming, emphasising that integrating gender perspectives in policing is crucial for a more effective and inclusive security sector. The event featured keynote addresses, presentations, and certificate awards, further strengthening efforts toward gender equality in law enforcement.
