The Gambia Police Force (GPF) Female Network, with sister forces, has commenced a four-day intensive training on Women’s Professional Leadership and Gender Equality for thirty (30)participants.
The training, which kicked-started on 13 May 2025 at the conference hall of the Police Headquarters in Banjul, is supported by the Diplomatic Antenna of Spain.
In her welcoming remarks, Superintendent Fatou Fofana from the GPF Female network highlighted the transformational role of women in expanding professional networks and fostering institutional growth. She emphasised the operational excellence of women in mediation and conflict resolution, expressing her expectations to see women in senior leadership positions within the Gambia Police Force. She underscored the importance of such capacity-building initiatives for women across all security institutions.
Commissioner Ana Cambón Blanco noted that the initiative aims to promote gender equality within the security sector and advance human rights practices across security institutions.
Chargé d’Affaires Violeta Insa affirmed that women are indispensable pillars in peace building and mediation. She commended the Gambia Police Force for its progressive stance on women’s empowerment and leadership development.
Delivering the official opening address on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police Administration (AIG), Ebrima Bah, emphasised the vital role of women in modern policing. He stated that the training would not only strengthen women’s leadership and professional competence but also help break existing barriers in leadership within the security sector.
The training is however facilitated through the Operational Support of the Counselor of Interior, in collaboration with the Diplomatic Antenna of Spain.
