Karpowership wants land-based power deal with gov’t after ship exit

Karpowership, Turkish global energy giant, is projecting a long-term energy partnership with the Gambia government, committing to a land-based power plant in an endeavour to maintain stable power in The Gambia.

This was recently disclosed by Omar A. B. Njie, the country manager of the multinational energy firm.

“At the moment, regarding our operations in The Gambia, the Powership has left but Karpowership is still here in The Gambia. We are still focusing on serving the good people of The Gambia,” Mr Njie said at the commissioning of Brufut Medinah Quranic Memorisation Centre and Orphanage the company renovated to the tune of US$40,000.

“We have projects that we are working on with the Government of The Gambia, because few years back we have been discussing with the Government of The Gambia for a land-based project,” he stated, saying: “We were the only bidder, and the successful bidder. And currently we are discussing with the Government of the Gambia on this code to tender, which if we become successful and sign a project with the Government of the Gambia, Karpowership would be here to serve the people of The Gambia.

“We would design, construct and build a new land-based power plant here in the Gambia with brand new machines, and it will be a PPA [power purchase agreement] contract that we will sign for the next 20 years, and we hope that will happen for the good people of The Gambia.”
