The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is actively participating in the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Issue, currently underway at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, the three-day summit aims to reinforce global commitment to the two-state solution and push for an end to the Israeli occupation.
Representing OIC Secretary-General H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, Ambassador Samir Bakr, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs, is leading the OIC General Secretariat’s delegation. The team includes Ambassador Hameed Opeloyeru, OIC Representative to the United Nations; Mr Adel Salama from the Department of Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs; and Mr. Jean Iqbal from the OIC Mission to the UN.
In opening statements, prominent global leaders, including Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for immediate and coordinated international action to preserve the viability of the two-state solution. They stressed the urgency of ending the Israeli occupation and achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region.
Over the course of eight in-depth sessions, the conference will focus on actionable steps toward establishing a sovereign Palestinian state. Discussions are being guided by the principles of the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Senior ministers, diplomats, and representatives from UN member states, regional organizations, and UN-affiliated bodies are attending the event, which runs from July 28 to 30, 2025. The conference is expected to culminate in a final declaration outlining practical mechanisms for enforcing the two-state solution in line with international legitimacy.
