GID engages Guinea community on documentation

In an effort to strengthen compliance and awareness on immigration matters among Gambians and non-Gambians, the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) collaborated with Mariama Jallow, a journalist of Teranga FM, in convening a highly-attended community sensitization program for the Guinean community in The Gambia on Sunday 17 July 2025 at the Bisco Garden.

The engagement brought together diverse audience on the Alien Registration Act 1977 and the Citizenship Act 1965. Superintendent Buba Badjie, OIC of Naturalization and Clearance Office; Superintendent Yusupha Jatta, OIC of Alien Registration, and Inspector Sutay B. Bah, Community Engagement Officer, provided insights on legislations, processes, procedures and requirements for alien registration and naturalization.

The meeting further got into an engaging question-and-answer session providing guidance on misconceptions and documenting the assessment of the Guinean community in The Gambia relative to immigration enforcement.

This invaluable engagement – attended by Seedy Dem, President of The Associates Tabital Pulaagu; Commissioner of Police Kaddijatou Jallow, Adlam Gambia, and Guinea Union in the Gambia, the Fula businessmen community and others – underscored the power of communication and community engagement in migration management.

The GID reaffirms its commitment to community policing, enhancing the understanding of immigration laws, ensuring compliance and protecting the rights and dignity of citizens and non-citizens alike.
