Mr. Ba Lamin Darboe, the Deputy General Manager of the Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC), has stressed the ultimate vision of efficiency and reliability of the transport service.
Mr. Darboe told SeniGambia that his company aims to become a modern, customer-focused, and data-driven transport company, which aligns directly with their strategic priorities—to improve efficiency and service reliability.
“Reliability,” he said, “is one thing we want to maintain, and also efficiency. Once it is confirmed that the bus should leave at 6.30, it leaves at 6.30. So we want to maintain that reliability, and we also want to strengthen accountability in our revenue collection.”
He added, “We also want to enhance the overall passenger experience through technology. Now, as technology advances, if we are left behind, it will be challenging for GTSC. So what we want is for things to move accordingly.”
Meanwhile, he relayed that the GTSC is broadening its scope beyond passenger transport and currently operates the school transport services and luggage transport services.
He expressed hope to venture into supporting farmers move perishable produce directly from the farms to the markets, stating that they look forward to buying specialised vehicles for that.
“Another bit is wherever there is a new road network, we want to go there,” the top public transport official disclosed.
“We do realise that the government is building roads everywhere. So, when a new road network is established, we want the buses to operate there to ease passenger movement to and from their respective destinations. It is not always easy, but then I think these are some of the things that we look forward to. And we are always expanding based on these needs.”
He extended gratitude to their parent company, Social Security, Housing and Finance Cooperation (SSHFC), and its managing director, Saloum Malang, who is also the GTSC board chairman, hailing the cooperation for its crucial role in the expansion of GTSC.
