The Centre for Policy, Research and Strategic Studies (CepRass) has launched its project “Assessing and Strengthening Democracy in The Gambia: Building a Representative and Accountable Government,” funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
The event brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including political parties, government institutions, civil society, and the diplomatic corps.
Keynote speakers deliberated on the importance of promoting representative and accountable governance in The Gambia.
Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting, dilated on government’s commitment to leveraging data-driven approaches to inform decision-making and strengthen democracy.
Ceesay said the partnership between the Centre for Policy, Research and Strategic Studies (CepRass) and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) marks a significant milestone in The Gambia’s democratic progress.
“This collaboration underscores the commitment to accountability, ensuring government institutions are answerable to citizens participation in fostering inclusive decision-making processes,” he added.
According to him, this initiative highlights the government’s dedication to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting effective, inclusive governance.
Dr. Adama Touray, Research Director at the Center for Policy, Research and Strategic Studies (CepRass), underscored the project’s objective of assessing democratic performance and fostering accountability in governance.
He reminded that the initiative aims to promote transparency and good governance practices in The Gambia.
Dr. Lamin Dampha, Project Manager, shed light on the significance of the initiative, elucidating its potential to strengthen democracy in The Gambia by promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement.
