President Adama Barrow has inaugurated the National Emergency Treatment Centre in Farato, West Coast Region, describing it as one of the most significant investments in The Gambia’s health sector in recent years.
The state-of-the-art complex brings together several key institutions under one roof: the National Reference Laboratory, the National Diagnostic and Imaging Centre, the Ministry of Health Training and Conference Centre, and the National Biomedical Engineering Unit. Officials say the facility will enhance emergency care, strengthen specialised health services, and reduce reliance on overseas referrals.
Commissioning the centre on Saturday, President Barrow hailed the project as a milestone in his government’s drive to modernise healthcare delivery.
“These facilities constitute a giant leap forward and reflect our unwavering resolve to improve the health and well-being of every Gambian and resident of The Gambia,” he said.
The Farato complex is expected to serve as a national hub for emergency treatment, diagnostics, and medical training, while also positioning The Gambia as a regional leader in healthcare innovation.
