President Barrow Launches 36.1km of Road Projects in West Coast Region

President Adama Barrow on Wednesday 19th August, 2026, has launched a combined 36.1 kilometres of road projects across six locations in the West Coast Region (WCR), as part of the government’s ongoing Connect Gambia Roads Infrastructure tour.

The initiative, unveiled on Wednesday, is designed to improve connectivity, facilitate movement, and boost economic activities by opening up communities across the region.

The six road projects include:

– Brikama–Jidda Baba Njie–Toubakuta Road – 6.2km

– Brikama Newtown Road–Kitty Junction – 2.4km

– Lamin Waa Juwara–Box Ba Road–Jah Oil, Brikama – 1.0km

– Lamin CDC–Kubariko–Makumbaya–Galoya–Kubuneh–Kunkujang Jataya–Mandinaring Road – 15km

– Hamat Bah Junction–OIC Road – 1.3km

– Jabang–Yuna–Madiana–Tanji Road – 10.2km

Speaking at the launch, President Barrow emphasized that the projects form part of the broader Connect Gambia Infrastructure Initiative, which seeks to expand and modernize the country’s road network. “These roads will not only connect communities but also strengthen economic centres, making trade and travel easier for all Gambians,” he said.

The West Coast Region, one of the most densely populated areas in the country, is expected to benefit significantly from the improved road infrastructure. Local residents and businesses anticipate reduced travel times, better access to markets, and enhanced opportunities for growth.

The Connect Gambia Initiative continues to be a cornerstone of the government’s development agenda, aiming to transform national infrastructure and lay the foundation for long-term economic progress.
