The National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democratic participation through a community outreach programme organised by the Upper Nuimi District Youth Committee. The initiative, supported by ActionAid The Gambia under the YPI Project, brought civic education directly to residents of Prince, Sami Kuta, and Saarie Marie in the Upper Nuimi District.
The outreach focused on civic rights and responsibilities, voter awareness, and human rights. Representing the NCCE, Mr. Mohammed Kanuteh, Regional Program Officer for NBR/LRR, served as the resource person.
He engaged participants on the importance of civic responsibility, active citizenship, voter participation, and peaceful involvement in democratic processes.
The programme provided community members particularly young people with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their roles as citizens. A key emphasis was placed on gaining a clear grasp of the electoral process as outlined in the Electoral Act 2025.
In a statement, the NCCE expressed appreciation for the initiative of the Upper Nuimi District Youth Committee and acknowledged the continued collaboration of partners and community stakeholders. The Council emphasized that such efforts are vital in promoting informed, responsible, and active citizenship, which are the cornerstones of a peaceful and democratic Gambia.
