Three people, including a driver and two passengers, survived a road accident at Jimpex earlier today. One passenger sustained serious injuries after becoming trapped inside the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses reported that the car, travelling from Banjul, collided with another vehicle parked along the roadside. While the driver and a rear-seat passenger escaped unharmed, the front-seat passenger was pinned inside the wreckage, with his legs stuck following the impact.
Rescue efforts proved challenging, but after several attempts, emergency responders managed to free the injured passenger, who was immediately rushed to hospital for treatment.
“The airbag and the seat belt saved him. If not, his head would have hit the car,” one eyewitness said, crediting the safety features for preventing more severe injuries.
No fatalities were recorded in the incident, though the exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear.
The accident has once again underscored the importance of road safety in The Gambia, particularly the consistent use of seat belts. Authorities continue to urge motorists and passengers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, as road accidents remain a major public concern.
