The Paramount Chief of The Gambia, Alhagie Yahya Jarjusey, who also serves as Chief of Jarra West, has called on Gambians to embark on farming as a means of achieving sustainable growth.
Speaking during an interview, Chief Jarjusey underscored the vital role agriculture plays in the country’s development, noting that farming remains the backbone of the Gambian economy.
He emphasised that greater participation in agriculture would not only strengthen food security but also reduce reliance on imports and create opportunities for youth and rural communities.
“Farming is the key to our future. It is through agriculture that we can ensure self-sufficiency, empower our people, and build a stronger nation,” Chief Jarjusey stated.
His appeal comes at a time when national strategies are increasingly focused on modernizing agriculture, encouraging agribusiness, and promoting sustainable land use. By urging Gambians to take up farming, Chief Jarjusey reinforced the message that agriculture is not just a tradition but a pathway to resilience and prosperity.
