Gambian writer Alpha Jobe has extended an earnest plea to Gambians – government, private sector leaders and ordinary Gambians – to assist him cover the rest of the expenses of a partial scholarship for an educational programme in the United Kingdom.
He would be doing the programme in either Cambridge or Oxford University. Known eminently as The Prolific Poet, Alpha earned the partial scholarship by Immerse Education for studies in one of these world-renowned universities after he became one of the winners of the Immerse Education Essay contest.
Staged by Immerse Education, a body in the UK founded in 2012 with the aim of providing very young students with unparalleled educational experiences, the essay competition has offered ambitious students the opportunity to win a full or partial scholarship on the award-winning programmes.
Immerse offers summer school programmes in collaboration with the top universities, which enable students work and study in these campuses like undergraduates.
Jobe was one of thousands of applicants for the contests and he became one of the winners. However, he could not cover the rest of the expenses to travel to the UK for his studies. This triggered him to extend an earnest call for help.
He appeals: “As a passionate Gambian writer, poet, entrepreneur and author, I am reaching out to you with a profound sense of commitment and responsibility to seek your generous sponsorship to cover up my partial scholarship awarded to me by Immerse Education in the UK.
“I am proud to announce that I am the first Gambian to participate in and win a competition organized by Immerse Education in UK, earning me a partial scholarship of 20 percent to study in either Cambridge or Oxford. The remaining 80 percent amounts to £4,996 equivalent to D450,000. The deadline for the fee payment is 30 March 2025.
“This is a great achievement for The Gambia and it is my hope that you will be pleased to be part of it by supporting me. My essay will be published on the Immerse Education Magazine in the upcoming Issue.”
His main hindrance, Jobe says, is the fact that he comes from a very humble background, adding that this is an opportunity for him to receive a highly standard tertiary education hence he humbly seeks support.
“As a dedicated and hardworking writer, I have contributed numerous poems and articles to various platforms. My aspiration is to be recognised as a prominent writer on the global stage. In pursuit of this dream, I strongly believe your support in this matter will advantageously impact this journey,” he pleads.
