The Basse Area Council (BSAC) has confirmed significant progress in its long-awaited plan to transform the Basse mini stadium into a standard football facility, with all required documentation now completed and under review.
According to the Council’s Public Relations Officer, Foday Manneh, bidding documents for interested contractors are ready and will soon be submitted to the Gambia Public Procurement Authority (GPPA) for approval.
“Once the approval is granted and contractors are awarded, work is expected to begin immediately,” Manneh stated. “The entire project is estimated to take six months to complete.”
The D12 million project, first announced in January 2024 by Council Chairman Mahamadou Ceesay, aims to provide young people in the Upper River Region (URR) with a modern platform to develop and showcase their football talents.
Since the initial announcement, no visible work had commenced, raising questions from the public. This reporter reached out to the Council for an update, where Manneh assured that internal consultations have been ongoing to ensure smooth implementation.
“This is a transformative project for the region, and the Council is committed to delivering it efficiently,” he added.
The upgraded mini stadium is expected to significantly boost youth participation in sport and elevate the standard of football in the URR.
