In a major boost for Gambian sports, the Cabinet has approved the National Sports Bill 2024, paving the way for its presentation at the National Assembly.
The Bill, presented by Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, introduces sweeping reforms to strengthen sports governance and development.
Key provisions include transforming the National Sports Council into a Sports Authority, establishing a Sports Tribunal, Anti-Doping Platform, and a Sports Development Fund.
Minister Badjie expressed optimism, saying the Bill will “enhance the management of sports and ensure associations operate in line with national laws and international best practices.”
The approval marks a historic step toward professionalizing and modernizing The Gambia’s sports sector.
