The deputy general manager of the Gambia Transport Service Company (GTSC) has disclosed that robust digitalisation strategy and expansion drive place the GTSC as one of the leading and most innovative transport companies in the sub-region.
Mr. Ba Lamin Darboe made this remark duri ng an interview with this medium at his office in Kanifing.
The GTSC has, over the years, positioned itself as a leader or a heavyweight in the West African system, and it seems poised not to be left behind.
Not only has it been expanding its services, but it is pushing toward service digitalisation.
Following the introduction of Taamo Card (a rechargeable transportation card), it has recently signed agreements with Wave and Yonna Wallet (subsidiary of Yonna Microfinance), some of the leading mobile money services in The Gambia.
Mr Darboe believed these are strategic moves that would strengthen the position of GTSC and propel it to higher heights.
Meanwhile, he emphasised: “Another thing is that we are not only keeping pace. We are not doing that. We are trying to look at the global trends, and of course we are also actively shaping the future of public transport in The Gambia and of course within the sub-region. You know that we are going to Senegal and back, and you may not even have to come here to buy tickets. You can actually just buy through the Yonna platform, the Wave platform. You can also buy through the GTBank app.”
With these initiatives, he said, the digital ticket and of course other businesses that they want to come up with, is a demonstration of their commitment to national progress and the general competitiveness.
The DGM firmly posited that national progress and economic growth are the ultimate, and GTSC strives to contribute effectively towards attaining as such through the provision of effective and efficient public transport.
