The Ghanaian military group known as GHANCOY 9, part of the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), made a generous donation to the Farafenni Senior Secondary School on Thursday 31 July 2025.
The initiative is part of their effort to help the local community through civil-military cooperation activities.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, the team provided important items such as stationery, books and sanitary products. These donations aim to support students’ learning and personal health, with a particular focus on helping girls.
Lt. Col. Agbemafle highlighted that this effort is not just about delivering supplies; it also reflects GHANCOY 9’s commitment to building strong relationships with the community, encouraging girls to stay in school and contributing positively to society.
The Principal of Farafenni Senior Secondary School, Abdou Gigo, expressed deep appreciation for GHANCOY 9’s support, noting how timely and impactful these donations are. He mentioned that the resources and education provided would enhance the students’ learning and personal growth.
A standout part of the event was an engaging lecture on menstrual hygiene, led by Captain Victoria Yayira Galley, aimed at teaching female students about proper menstrual health. The session focused on reducing stigma and encouraging young girls to feel confident and stay in school.
This outreach is part of ECOMIG’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, stability and community development throughout The Gambia.
