Emerging author launches two debut books

Binta Nyagado, a young previously aspiring writer has become one of The Gambia’s newest authors lately, following the publication of double literary and creative blockbusters.

The books, going by the titles The Radiant Thrivers: Dismantling Toxic Dynamics’ and ‘Fragile Barriers’, were launched in March this year at the Alliance Francaise, along the Kairaba Avenue.

In attendance were Cherno Umar Barry, president of the Gambia Writer’s Association (WAG); popular author and educator, Musa Bah; Isatou Gaye, representative of the Peace Of Mind Psycho-Social Centre; Augustina Ugbana, founder and director of Care and Prevention Foundation (CPF).

Others included Sophia Manneh, founder and CEO of Safe Space for Girls; Daniel J Mendy, the former principal of St John’s School for the Deaf; Besenty Gomez, lecturer at the Management and Development Institute (MDI), and others.

In his review, eminent scholar and literary critic Cherno Omar Barry describes the books in colourful language, highlighting the relevance of their themes.

Besenty Gomez, in declaring the book launched, praised Binta for her effort and commended her for the vision. He thus urged support for the likes of her.

Others – Augustina Ugbana and Sophia Manneh of the Safe Space for Girl – spoke along the same lines. A few family members also expressed their joy over Binta’s successful initiative.

Facing the attendees, Binta Nyagado discussed the relevance of personally confronting problems, failure of which has led to the persistence of problems faced by individuals. Personal responsibility is key, she notes.

These double publications were conceived to inspire folks to take responsibility to their lives, and to better themselves and their communities, she said.
