Bakary K. Badjie, the National Assembly Member for Foni Bintang, has called on the Assembly selection committee to choose candidates with less demanding travel schedules to lead the Special Committee investigating the sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s assets.
“Honourable Speaker, we don’t want a committee of busy individuals who will keep flying in and out of the country,” he said, adding that those parts of the committee with busy schedules should withdraw.
“We want this committee to continue its work so that it can finish its work on time. We don’t want situations where the committee will be halted because they don’t have a quorum,” he added.
He specifically objected to the list of individuals identified by the selection committee of the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, Fatou Cham, a member of Sanneh Mentereng, also raised concerns over the availability of some members in the committee, citing their roles at the ECOWAS committee.
Additionally, she questioned the lack of gender representation in the committee, which suggests Abdoulie Ceesay, deputy majority leader, as the committee chairperson.
The selected committee includes Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay (NPP), Madi Ceesay (UDP), Suibou Touray (PDOIS), Kebba Lang Fofana (Independent), and Alhagie Mbowe (NRP), among others.
