The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, successfully concluded a month-long Counter Terrorism Training of Trainers (TOT) Course for the Gambia National Army (GNA), graduating 21 personnel.
The closing ceremony was held at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School (GAFTS) in Fajara and presided over by the Commander of GNA, Brigadier General Sait Njie.
The course was designed to enhance participants’ tactical and instructional skills in addressing contemporary security threats. Through intensive physical, mental, and professional drills, the training aimed at preparing battalion-level instructors to lead and train troops in counter-terrorism operations effectively.
Delivering remarks during the graduation, Major Abdoulie Secka, Commandant of GAFTS, commended the participants for their resilience and dedication. He emphasised that while the graduation marks the end of the training, it should be seen as the beginning of their responsibilities as trainers. He urged them to transfer the knowledge and skills gained to their colleagues and apply them effectively in operational contexts.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Mamat O.A. Cham, Brigadier General Njie expressed confidence in the quality and impact of the training. He reaffirmed that the lessons were well understood both in theory and in practice and stressed the strategic importance of the training in enhancing national security preparedness.
Brigadier General Njie further extended appreciation to the GNA Headquarters, GAFTS, 1 Infantry Battalion, and ECOMIG for their invaluable support, cooperation, and commitment throughout the training period.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of certificates to all participants, including Certificates of Merit presented to the three Overall Best Graduates in recognition of their outstanding performance.
