His Excellency Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow has welcomed two high-level delegations to his office at the State House in Banjul, marking significant steps in strengthening international cooperation and development.
The Vice President first received on Monday a delegation from Switzerland, led by Mr Peter Sydler. The delegation presented plans to establish a residential facility for elderly citizens in The Gambia and Europeans as well. The initiative aims to provide a comfortable living environment for seniors while creating employment opportunities for Gambians, including roles for qualified nurses, drivers, cleaners, and other skilled workers.
Mr Sydler praised The Gambia’s peaceful and friendly atmosphere, referring to it as “The Smiling Coast of Africa,” and expressed confidence that the project would benefit both European residents and the local community.
In a similar vein, the Vice President also met with a delegation from the Canary Islands, part of the Kingdom of Spain, led by Esther Monzón, Minister of Health. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Canary Islands and The Gambia.
The team aspires to support in the establishment of a call centre, training of trainers for sea rescue operations involving fire service officers, police and navy personnel, and initiatives in fire investigation.
Vice President Jallow expressed appreciation for the proposed collaborations and emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing public safety and emergency response capabilities.
These engagements underscore The Gambia’s dedication to fostering international partnerships that contribute to national development and the well-being of its citizens.
