Gambia’s National Assembly Clerk represents country at global parliamentary forum in Geneva

In a landmark moment for The Gambia’s legislature, Clerk of the National Assembly, Kalipha MM Mbye, is representing the country for the first time at the prestigious meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The high-level gathering, held from October 20 to 22, 2025, ran alongside the 151st Session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and brought together parliamentary leaders and senior officials from across the globe to share experiences, strengthen collaboration, and discuss innovative approaches to parliamentary governance.

During the meeting, Mr Mbye delivered a statement showcasing The Gambia’s recent parliamentary innovations, particularly the introduction of the hearing format adopted by the Special Select Committee investigating the sales and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh.

The ASGP serves as the consultative body of the IPU, fostering professional exchange and cooperation among Secretaries General and senior parliamentary administrators worldwide.

The Gambia’s participation marks a milestone in the National Assembly’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its institutional capacity, enhance transparency, and expand its international engagement in line with global parliamentary standards.
