The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare has commenced the regional launch of the National Gender Policy 2025-2034 at a local hotel in Bwiam, West Coast Region.
This event, which commenced on 22 April 2025, marks the beginning of five regional engagements that will cover the remaining regions.
The gathering brought together female councillors, police officers, religious leaders, representatives of persons with disabilities, youth representatives, and local chiefs.
Addressing the attendees, Deputy Permanent Secretary Kajali Sonko emphasised that the regional launch mirrors the national launch officiated by President Adama Barrow.
He said the regional launch is to empower local representatives regarding the policy and to reinforce the government’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive development across all regions of The Gambia.
Jack Ceesay of Old Yundum, the representative of the National Women Councillors and regional focal point, highlighted the crucial role women play in national development.
The participants were welcomed by Kaddy S. Janneh, the Regional Gender Officer for the West Coast Region.
