‘GID achieved a record-breaking revenue milestone in 2024’

The Gambia Immigration Department’s commissioner of finance Karalang Jarju has stated that the Department achieved a record-breaking revenue milestone in 2024 as it collected over D420 million, a significant increase from D317 million in 2023.

“This exceptional performance highlights the department’s vital role as a government security agency and a key contributor to national revenue,” he said at a press conference held at the weekend to update the media about the revenue collected in 2024.

He stated: “Despite an internal ceiling projection of revenue at D220 million, effective management and rigorous revenue monitoring led to achieving this remarkable figure. The entire revenue was deposited into the consolidated fund, demonstrating GID’s commitment to the fiscal year.”

According to the top GID official, the introduction of updated fees and rigorous financial management boosted collections significantly, investments in system modernization, operational efficiency, establishment of new issuing centers and stations, improved service delivery, and enhanced support to regional commissioners, area commanders and unit heads, which bolstered operational performance.

“Under the leadership of director general Ebrima Mboob, GID has achieved unprecedented successes ranging from strategic initiatives planned for sustained growth and improved service delivery,” he said, adding:  “The efficiency gained was attributed to strategic staff redeployment of 564 officers, rotation of cashiers, right placement of staff, promotion of 346 junior and senior officers, establishment of community engagement and other operations.

“The GID’s achievements reflect its dedication to fiscal responsibility, operational efficiency, and national development, despite economic challenges. These successes underscore the department’s commitment to maintaining its upward trajectory and delivering exceptional service to the Gambian people.”
