GPF organises send-off ceremony for officers to Turkey 

The Gambia Police Force on Thursday, September 25, 2025, held a dignified send-off ceremony in honour of 14 officers who have been granted the opportunity to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Turkey.

The ceremony, graced by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Demba Sowe and senior officers, celebrated the officers’ dedication to academic and professional excellence.

In his welcoming remarks, Commissioner for International Affairs Famara Jobarteh commended the beneficiaries for their commitment to both education and service. He urged them to remain united, respect the laws and customs of Turkey, and carry themselves with dignity and discipline.

Assistant Inspector General, Administration, Ebrima Bah, congratulated the officers for making it to the final list, describing them as “ambassadors of the Gambia Police Force and the country at large”. He reminded the officers that the expectations from the command are very high and encouraged them to live up to the trust.

Deputising the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General Demba Sowe also extended his congratulations. He emphasised that the officers are fortunate to embark on this academic journey and urged them to endure challenges, give their utmost best, and protect the integrity of both the institution and the nation.

Speaking on behalf of the departing officers, Sgt Omar Barrow said they carry the pride and hopes of the Service and the nation. They were encouraged to embrace the opportunity with discipline, focus, and determination, and they will return with knowledge and skills in helping to strengthen policing and public safety in The Gambia.

He said this event demonstrates The Gambia Police Force’s commitment to capacity building in advanced specialist training for its personnel.
