GPF receives refurbished FMU office and vehicle via EU-German support

The Gambia Police Force, under the framework of the Police Programme Africa: Joint EU-German Support, held a handing-over ceremony for a newly refurbished Facility Management Unit (FMU) office and a new double cabin pickup vehicle.

The ceremony brought together senior police officers, development partners, and invited guests, including officials from GIZ, the European Union Delegation, and members of the Police High Command.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ebrima Bah expressed heartfelt gratitude for the continued technical and logistical support extended to the GPF under the Police Programme Africa.

He said the collaboration has gone beyond infrastructure, citing examples such as the construction of model police stations, hands-on capacity building, technical mentoring, and operational support.

AIG Bah recalled that GIZ had already facilitated the completion of several model stations and initiated preliminary works for five additional stations, ensuring that each region across The Gambia be equipped with at least one modern policing facility.

He described these investments as critical to the ongoing professionalization of the Force, and reaffirmed the GPF’s full commitment to utilizing both the refurbished FMU facility and the new vehicle responsibly and sustainably.

Speaking at the event, GIZ Regional Director Ulrike Ebeling noted the essential role of the FMU in preserving police infrastructure, and assured of GIZ’s continued support in strengthening the unit through training, technical advice, and long-term guidance.

Deputy EU Ambassador Raphael Brigandi, in his remarks, emphasised also that the EU-German joint support aims to enhance the GPF’s operational capacity and contribute to a more accountable and community-focused policing system in The Gambia.

Established in 2023, the Facility Management Unit serves as a central pillar for the maintenance and sustainability of GPF infrastructure. It is tasked with preventive inspections, the upkeep of police buildings, and safeguarding long-term investments in institutional facilities.

The new vehicle is expected to improve mobility and operational coordination for FMU staff in conducting infrastructure assessments and emergency maintenance work.

The event marked yet another milestone in the GPF’s broader transformation journey, as the Force continues to pursue modernization, professionalism, and service excellence in line with its reform agenda.
