Jungler Sanna Manjang Arrested in Casamance, to be Repatriated

A notorious and feared member of former President Yahya Jammeh’s hit squad known as the Junglers has been reportedly arrested in Casamance, Southern Senegal, by a joint security operation of Gambia and Senegal on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Media reports indicated that the Spokesperson of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), Malick Sanyang, confirmed Manjang’s arrest, but cautioned that the identities and nationalities of others reportedly arrested have not yet been established.

“It is my understanding that the referenced Sanna Manjang is indeed under custody, but others allegedly rounded up are not confirmed to be Gambians at this point,” PRO Sanyang was quoted as saying.

Reacting to the arrest of Manjang, Sanna Camara, a senior Gambian journalist who is a victim of Jammeh, said he is happy that Sanna Manjang has been nabbed by authorities in Senegal.

“He has questions to answer regarding his role in crimes committed against Gambians, yet he is fleeing the country instead of facing responsibility for his acts. He’s such a coward,” Mr. Camara pointed out.

A statement issued by the Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services on the capture of Jungular Sanna Manjang said he was arrested in a joint Selegalese-Gambian security operation.

“The Government of The Gambia informs the public that Sanna Manjang, a former member of the Jungulars who has been implicated in various human rights violations during the administration of former President Yahya Jammeh, was apprehended in the hours of this morning in the Casamance Region of Southern Senegal,” said the statement dated November 29, 2025.

According to the Government, this arrest is the result of a coordinated security operation between the authorities of the Republic of Senegal and The Gambia. The two sister countries have worked closely together in recent months to locate Mr. Manjang, who has been a fugitive since January 2017.

It stated that Mr. Manjang is named in the findings of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission for his central role in torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings carried out by the Jungulars. His arrest represents a significant step in the ongoing pursuit of justice and accountability for victims of abuses committed under the former regime.

It concluded that arrangements are underway for his repatriation to The Gambia, where he will be processed in accordance with the law.
