Madame Mariame SY has been nominated as Senegal’s new extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to The Gambia.
If President Adama Barrow accepts her appointment, she will become the first female to serve in this role. Her nomination was part of a recent reshuffle of ambassadors announced by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye during a Council of Ministers meeting in Dakar.
Madame SY, who previously served as a principal adviser at the foreign ministry in Dakar and was most recently the Senegalese Ambassador to Spain, succeeds Monsieur Bassirou SENE, who is retiring and will receive his pension. The appointments of Madam Sy and other officials were made on Thursday 16 January 2025 after a Cabinet meeting, according to a press release by the government of Senegal.
