The Unite Movement for Change (UMC), one of the latest groups to throw its hat into the ring ahead of the December 5th presidential election in 2026, has equipped its regional coordinators with eight motorcycles to heighten its campaign for the presidency.
The handing-over of the motorcycles was held at the UMC headquarters in Fajara on Tuesday and was witnessed by the body’s top brass.
The Unite Movement for Change was formed shortly after Talib Ahmed Bensouda, its leading figure, resigned as the administrative secretary of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
As a political movement, they aspire to contest the 2026 presidential election, promising Gambians change and national development.
The political movement is finding its footing very well and being effectively embraced in numbers, especially by young people. Recently activities, such as launching and other events, rallied large numbers from the masses.
However, there is a deep understanding among its officials that there is more to be done to gain and sustain popular support as elections approach, prompting the latest initiative.
The regional coordinators benefiting from the initiative cover Foni, Niamina West, North Bank Region, Brikama, Central River Region-North and Upper River Region. The UMC expressed hope that they would help in rallying grassroots support.
Kemo Bojang, who serves as spokesperson of the movement, said the presentation of the motorcycles comes as a sign of commitment to empower and equip its coordinators and volunteers across communities in The Gambia.
According to Bojang, effective communication and mobility are imperative for the movement to realise its objective.
He equally delved into how the initiative would help their grassroots officials to better serve communities through messages of unity, progress and change.
In a similar vein, Tombong Saidy hailed the dedication of the recipients (the regional coordinators), encouraging them to use the motorcycles in a responsible manner that aligns with the conceived objectives.
Ramatoulie Cham, delivering the vote of thanks, extended heartfelt gratitude to the movement, commending their foresight and continuous support.
