Trade Minister Baboucarr O. Joof has hailed the cordial ties between The Gambia and the European Union, saying these ties would continue to serve as a catalyst for strengthening the enduring friendship and cooperation between both nations.
As Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, Mr Joof deputised the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr Momodou Tangara, at the European Union (EU) Day celebrations in Gambia on 9 May this year.
Minister Joof delivered the closing statement at the function – Dialogue between The Gambia and the European Union – on behalf of the Foreign Minister at a local hotel in Banjul.
In his address, the minister emphasised the fruitful nature of the dialogue that demonstrated “our collective commitment to advancing the longstanding partnership between The Gambia and the European Union”.
The minister highlighted the spirit of mutual respect that characterised the discussions on political development, good governance, regional cooperation, environmental sustainability, and resilience. “The candid exchanges have broadened our perspectives and fortified the foundations for enhanced cooperation,” he said. “The commitments made and action points agreed upon during this dialogue reflect our shared resolve to translate words into meaningful action.”
He underlined the importance of effective implementation to fulfill the objectives of both the Samoa Agreement and The Gambia’s National Development Plan.
Minister Joof reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to deepening collaboration with the European Union, expressing appreciation for their continued support of The Gambia’s development priorities.
The minister concluded by extending sincere gratitude to the EU Delegation in The Gambia, other delegates, participants and the organizing committee for their contributions to the successful dialogue.
“I am confident that the outcomes of our engagements today will serve as a catalyst for strengthening the enduring ties of friendship and cooperation between The Gambia and the European Union,” he said.
