A new chapter of hope and opportunity was unveiled in the Upper River Region on Saturday with the official launch of the Musa Jallow Foundation.
Named in honour of the late Musa Jallow, a renowned educationist from Basse Santa-Su, the foundation seeks to provide financial assistance to underprivileged students, enabling them to pursue higher education.
Musa Jallow dedicated over three decades to shaping young minds as a teacher and headmaster at various schools in the region. Known for his unwavering commitment to education, he worked tirelessly to ensure children in Basse had access to learning opportunities. His legacy endures through the countless individuals he mentored, many of whom now contribute significantly to society.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lamin Jaiteh, Deputy Governor of the Upper River Region (URR), lauded the initiative as a beacon of hope. He noted that the foundation aligns with the Gambian government’s vision of ensuring access to quality education for all.
“The Musa Jallow Foundation represents a meaningful step towards bridging the educational gap in our communities,” Jaiteh said. “It embodies the late Musa Jallow’s dream of empowering the youth through education.”
The event featured an emotional highlight when Michael Hamadi Secka, a Gambian author and educationist from Basse, shared a heartfelt letter written by Musa Jallow to his son before his passing. The letter, filled with messages of hope and resilience, underscored Jallow’s belief in education as a transformative force.
Hon. Hadrammeh Sidibeh, Gambia’s Ambassador to Senegal, officially launched the foundation. He commended the initiative and called on philanthropists to support its mission. Sidibeh praised the late Musa Jallow’s dedication to serving his community, noting the profound impact he had on countless children in URR and beyond.
In his closing remarks, Dr Bakery M. Jallow, son of the late Musa Jallow and executive director of the foundation, expressed gratitude to attendees and donors. He emphasised the importance of sustaining the foundation’s mission and preserving his father’s legacy.
“The Musa Jallow Foundation is not just about financial aid; it is about continuing my father’s lifelong passion for education and community development,” Dr Jallow said.
