National Inter-Departmental Sports Association (NISA) staged the opening of the 6-aside tournament.
The opening witnessed the first match, played between the United Nations (UN) Gambia and the Judiciary (judicial staff) in the EMAD football complex at Pipeline.
In a thrilling match that foreshadowed an exciting tournament ahead, both teams displayed raw sporting talent and pure athletic potential.
The UN Gambia had good chances in the first half but failed to convert those chances into tangible goals. However, they eventually found the back of the net through Ebrima Faal.
The game remained a tight contest, with UN Gambia maintaining dominance over their opponents throughout the first half.
The second half resumed, with the UN Gambia edging towards a victory. However, just about five minutes to stoppage time, the Judiciary found the net and bagged an equaliser through the brilliant Ousman.
The first match of the 6-aside tournament thus ended in a stalemate, while the second match played between Kubuneh F.C. and Creation Plus F.C.
Gibril Jarjue, secretary general of NISA, stated after the games that the purpose is to bring workers and civil servants together. Fifteen institutions are participating in the tournament, he disclosed.
He described the opening as a success, urging the players to exercise sportsmanship, network, and collaborate.
