His Excellency, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission has recent received a delegation from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
The delegation, led by Mr. Christoph Rauh, Director for Africa at the BMZ, is in Abuja for the ongoing high-level negotiation meeting between the ECOWAS Commission and the Government of Germany.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Rauh highlighted that while peace and security remain central to ECOWAS–German cooperation, the German Government plans to place greater emphasis on economic and private sector development going forward.
Mr. Rauh noted that the objective was to strengthen the longstanding partnership with ECOWAS and enhance its impact across the region.
In her remarks, the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Mrs. Damtien L. TCHINTCHIBIDJA, briefed the President on the progress of the ongoing negotiations.
In response, H.E. Dr. Touray expressed appreciation to the Government of Germany for its continuous support and fruitful partnership with ECOWAS.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial cooperation based on consultation, shared ownership, and sustainable development outcomes.
