Lawyer Ousainou A.N.M. Darboe, Secretary General, Party Leader and 2026 standard-bearer for United Democratic Party (UDP) has called for unity and vision for a prosperous Gambia.
Darboe who received a tumultuous welcome by thousands of supporters on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from Banjul International Airport to his Pipeline residence after a European tour where he reportedly strengthened diplomatic and economic ties told the gathering that the party’s strength lies in its diversity and collective efforts.
Diaspora Engagement
The veteran politician and lawyer hailed the diaspora’s contributions to The Gambia’s economy and encouraged their continued involvement in national development, promising representation in decision-making processes if elected.
He urged the diaspora to redirect remittances toward political change and urged supporters to remain focused on defeating President Adama Barrow’s National Peopleโs Party (NPP) administration.
2026 Presidential Election
The UDP leader outlined the party’s campaign strategy, including forging opposition alliances, courting undecided voters, and leveraging traditional and digital media responsibly.
On Corruption, Incompetence and Negligence
In what can be described as his pathology on the current governance system under the administration of President Adama Barrow, Darboe criticized government for corruption, incompetence, and neglecting critical sectors like education, agriculture, and health.
