The Unite Movement for Change, led by Talib Ahmed Bensouda, politician and mayor of the Kanifing Municipality, has urged Gambians to strive for unity and write a new chapter for the country, which is now at a crossroads.
Led by the mayor, the UMC is emerging rapidly as a political movement, with most of its rhetoric centred on unity and purpose in overcoming challenges facing The Gambia.
This movement, according UMC, was born out of urgent necessity, as the country reaches “a point where we must choose between continuing with failed politics or building a new future focused on issues that matter, development that reaches every community, accountability that restores trust, and unity that strengthens our nation”.
According to the dispatch, the movement represents a collective decision to take responsibility of The Gambia’s direction, underscoring that this is an opportunity to collectively define a new direction for the country, which is at a point where it must define its destiny.
The UMC further underscores: “Too much time has been wasted with politics of division and personal ambition. It is time to unite and write a new chapter for our nation. No one will build the Gambia we deserve better than ourselves. We must unite for that purpose. Our destiny and the future of generations to come rests in our hands alone.
“We believe in showing results, not just making promises. For our movement, this means our actions will be focused on listening, building a genuine consensus, and creating a platform that truly reflects the people’s will.”
Moreover, the UMC states that it is building a national conversation, focused on practical, development centred solutions, emphasising that it will channel its collective energy into designing the pathway of economic growth and good governance that will deliver tangible improvements in the lives of all Gambians.
“This movement,” it states, “is where we, the people, design the blueprint for a New Gambia. We are the architects, defining the vision and the plan through nationwide dialogue. This movement is building the foundation for a new political party, one dedicated to transforming our collective vision into concrete action.”
