Mohammed B.S. Jallow, the  Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, has hailed the efforts of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) The Gambia, especially their intervention in the area of health and education.

VP Jallow extended gratitude to UNICEF for the critical support, saying The Gambia has made significant strides in immunisation and primary health care through vaccine procurement, cold-chain logistics, community mobilisation, and health system strengthening.

He relayed how a child in Kudang Tenda or in most rural parts of the country has access to life-saving vaccines, the rate at which infectious diseases that once threatened the lives of thousands of children have been reduced. “Our national immunisation programme is a model of success and a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. A healthy child is a core investment for the growth of our nation.”

He noted: “Additionally, this level of impact is equally evident in education, where UNICEF has been a steadfast partner in our pursuit of inclusive, equitable, and quality learning for all.”

He stated that UNICEF’s support ranges from constructing classrooms in the early years of our independence to supporting teacher training, curriculum reform, and the integration of digital learning tools.

According the Vice President UNICEF’s contributions, the Vice President highlighted, have helped build a more resilient education system, adding that support for girls’ education, early childhood development, and inclusive education, particularly for children with disabilities, ensures that no child is left behind.”
