VP Jallow hosts WAEC delegation, reaffirms commitment to education excellence

His Excellency Mohammed B. S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, on 3 September 2025  received a high-level delegation from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Banjul Office at the State House in Banjul.

The visiting delegation, led by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Louis Moses Mendy, was accompanied by Musa B.B. Conteh, Head of the National Office of WAEC in The Gambia.

Speaking after the audience, Mr Conteh explained that the visit was a courtesy call to formally introduce the leadership of the Banjul Office to the Vice President, brief him on WAEC’s activities, and highlight the Council’s ongoing work in administering and managing national examinations. 

He further stated that the discussions touched on strengthening WAEC’s partnership with the Gambian government in ensuring credible, transparent and high-quality assessments for students across the country.

Vice President Jallow warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for their efforts in advancing education in The Gambia. He recalled his previous role as WAEC’s Chief Government Nominee and Chairperson of the Gambia Administrative and Finance Committee, underscoring his deep familiarity with the Council’s work and its importance to the future of Gambian youth.

The Vice President assured WAEC of government’s continued support in fostering a strong and effective education system that empowers students and strengthens national development.

He further said the engagement reaffirms The Gambia’s commitment to quality education and highlights the crucial role of WAEC in nurturing the next generation of leaders.
