His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia, accompanied by a team of officials, has embarked on a comprehensive site visit to key institutions under his purview.
The sectors included the National Population Commission Secretariat (NPCS), National Nutrition Agency (NaNA), National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQS), and the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Coordinating Center (NCCRM).
The purpose of the visit, which commenced on Wednesday 2 April 2025, was to assess the level of progress in the implementation of various programmes and to identify the challenges the sectors are facing.
The tour began at the NPCS office in Banjul, where officials welcomed the Vice President and shared insights on the progress made and the challenges encountered. The Vice President and his team had productive discussions on the sector’s achievements and ongoing efforts.
The team also visited the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) office at Bertil Harding Highway. Director Malang Fofana provided an update on NaNA’s structure, programs, and challenges, highlighting the agency’s significant accomplishments and ongoing initiatives.
The Vice President and his team then proceeded to the Food Safety and Quality Assurance complex, where the Director shared the institution’s achievements and outlined some of the challenges faced in ensuring food safety standards.
At the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Coordinating Center (NCCRM), discussions focused on the centre’s mandate, key programmes, and the hurdles it faces in fulfilling its critical role.
The tour proceeded to the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), where Executive Director Momodou Dibba provided a detailed overview of the agency’s achievements, including the innovative Adaptive Social Protection System and enhanced data management strategies.
Mr Dibba also addressed some of the challenges the agency encounters in fulfilling its mission.
The vice president and entourage also visited the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) in Kanifing, where Executive Director Sanna Dahaba briefed them on the agency’s mandate, key interventions, and successes in managing both natural and man-made disasters.
Mr Dahaba highlighted the ongoing challenges the agency faces in this critical area.
Throughout the visit, heads of the various agencies expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s attention to their sectors. They emphasised that the visit was an important show of support and commitment to ensuring these institutions remain effective in serving the Gambian people.
In his remarks at the end of the tour, Vice President Jallow commended staff members of these agencies for their hard work and dedication, acknowledging the remarkable progress made by each sector.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges identified during the visits and ensuring that these agencies continue to deliver high-quality services to the people of The Gambia.
