The Vice President of The Gambia, Mohammed BS Jallow, on Saturday presided over the official launch of the National Assembly Strategic Plan 2025–2029 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.
The newly unveiled plan, under the theme “Enhancing Parliamentary Performance, Strengthening Democratic Institutions, and Inclusive Citizen Engagement,” sets out a bold roadmap aimed at transforming the National Assembly into a more effective, responsive, and people-centred institution.
Delivering the keynote address, Vice President Jallow underscored the strategic importance of the plan, calling it a reflection of The Gambia’s collective aspirations and a key pillar of the “New Gambia” vision.
“This Strategic Plan is more than just a document,” he said. “It is a declaration of our collective intent and a roadmap to ensure that our Parliament becomes a stronger pillar of our democracy.”
He stressed the vital role of a strong and functional legislature in national development, adding that the plan is designed to strengthen the Assembly’s key functions such as law-making, oversight, and representation. This is to ensure that the parliament serves the needs and interests of the Gambian people in a much better way.
The launch represents a renewed commitment to democratic governance and citizen participation, setting the stage for a more inclusive and accountable legislative process over the next five years.
