His Excellency Mohammed B.S. Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, yesterday received in audience a high-ranking delegation from the Senegalese Armed Forces at his office at the State House in Banjul.
The visiting delegation was led by Lieutenant General Philip Henri Alfred DIA, Inspector General of the Senegalese Armed Forces. The purpose of the courtesy visit was to assess the status, welfare and operational conditions of Senegalese troops deployed in The Gambia under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), and to gain first-hand insight into the challenges they face while serving.
During the engagement, Lieutenant General DIA conveyed warm greetings on behalf of the President of the Republic of Senegal and expressed appreciation for the Vice President’s hospitality.
He explained that, as mandated by the Senegalese President, his mission was to conduct an official inspection of Senegalese ECOMIG troops and the Defence Attaché stationed at the Senegalese Embassy in Banjul.
He mentioned the importance of engaging Gambian authorities to understand how the troops are performing and to gather advice and recommendations that could be relayed back to leadership in Senegal.
“We are pleased with the professionalism, discipline, and experience demonstrated by our troops here,” Lt. General DIA stated. “But our mission does not end at expressing satisfaction. We are also here to understand their challenges and work together to find meaningful solutions, all for the benefit of both The Gambia and Senegal,” he said.
Vice President Jallow welcomed the initiative and commended the Senegalese Government for its continuous support and cooperation.
He acknowledged the strong bilateral relations between the two nations and praised the role of the Senegalese Armed Forces in maintaining peace and security in the region.
The visit concluded on a note of mutual appreciation and a renewed commitment to strengthening military collaboration and regional security.
