A prodigious and dynamic young author who has been making a mark on the literary landscape in The Gambia, making waves and establishing a name for himself, Alpha Jobe, has bagged yet another feat in his literary quest, becoming one of the winners of an international essay contest in the United Kingdom.
Known broadly as the Prolific Poet, Jobe is not only a poetry genius, but also an ardent and excellent writer of other forms of composition, specifically prose. He is the author of Out of Darkness and has masterminded notable essays and short stories that have become relatable to many in The Gambia and beyond.
This has enabled him break barriers and leave indelible marks on the international literary scene.
Staged by Immerse Education, a body in the UK founded in 2012 with the aim of providing students aged 13-18 with unparalleled educational experiences, the essay competition is prestigious contest that receives yearly applicants and contestants the world over.
From 2020 to date, the “competition has offered ambitious students the opportunity to win a full or partial scholarship on our award-winning programmes,” it stated. Immerse offers summer school programmes in collaboration with the world top universities, which enables students work and study on these campuses like undergraduates.
The 2025 competition is dubbed record-breaking by the body, which says it receives thousands of entries from students all over the world.
The young author, Alpha Jobe, who studies at the University of The Gambia and was recently elected as assistant secretary general of the Young Writers Association of The Gambia (YWAG), has the distinction of being recognised by Immerse Education as the first Gambian to participate in and win a competition organised by Immerse, earning him a partial scholarship to study at Cambridge or Oxford.
