Gambia Police Force completes investigation into ‘unburned drugs’, submits report for legal action

The Gambia Police Force has concluded its investigation into allegations surrounding an incident of “unburned prohibited drugs”, which followed the destruction publicly of seized drugs by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG).

The profound investigation aimed to demonstrate the police’s upholding of justice and transparency in handling prohibited substances.

“The investigative panel has submitted a comprehensive case docket and report to the police command for onward transmission to the Office of the Attorney General, where the findings will undergo legal review for appropriate action,” the police stated.

Inspector General of Police Seedy M. Touray commended the panel for their professionalism and diligence in handling the matter. He also expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperation and patience during the investigation.

He said acting on directives from the Ministry of Interior, an investigation panel led by the police probed into the matter to ensure all allegations were thoroughly examined and “to uphold the integrity of our efforts against drug-related crimes”.

However, he noted that the Gambia Police Force “remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy on drugs”, holding all accountable who seek to undermine national security. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, he appeals.
