The Gambia Police Force has received reports of unauthorized fare hikes by some drivers operating on the Serekunda-Brikama route, with fares reportedly ranging from D50 to D100 – well above the approved rates.
Police Public Relations Officer Momodou Musa Sisawo said the Gambia Police Force (GPF) “strongly condemns this unlawful practice”, which unfairly burdens commuters. All officers stationed on roads and checkpoints have been instructed to monitor compliance and take appropriate action against violators, he said.
He encouraged the public to report any instances of overcharging to the nearest police station and be ready to be witnesses.
“The GPF remains committed to ensuring fair transport practices and protecting commuters from exploitation,” the Police PRO said.
