Banjul North NAM elected W/A Bloc Rep at Africa parliamentary health committees network

In a significant development for The Gambia’s healthcare sector, Hon. Modou Lamin B. Bah, National Assembly Member for Banjul North Constituency, has been elected as the Gambia’s first West Africa Bloc Representative (English-speaking Countries) at the Network for African Parliamentary Committees of Health (NEAPACOH) Executive Committee.

The election took place during the 16th annual general gathering of NEAPACOH, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from March 5-7, 2025.

The event brought together Members of Parliament from health and budgetary committees, support staff, and civil society organizations from 26 African countries held under the theme: “Repositioning the roles of parliamentarians for the implementation of the unfinished ICPD agenda and the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC): South to South lessons and good practices.”

As the head of The Gambia’s delegation, Hon. Bah presented the NEAPACOH 2025 report on behalf of the country, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the nation’s healthcare system through parliamentary oversight and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

His presentation highlighted The Gambia’s dedication to improving healthcare delivery and achieving Universal Health Coverage.

During the gathering, Hon. Bah also engaged in high-level networking with potential partners committed to supporting The Gambia’s healthcare sector.

These partnerships aim to bolster the government’s efforts, particularly in areas such as Tuberculosis (TB) control, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Maternal Health, and Population and Development.

In a ground-breaking move, Hon. Bah and his team announced plans to establish the first-ever TB Caucus in The Gambia’s National Assembly, an initiative designed to support and accelerate efforts to combat TB, a critical public health challenge in the country.

Hon. Bah’s election to the NEAPACOH Executive Committee underscores his leadership and dedication to advancing healthcare not only in The Gambia but also across the West African region.

His role as the West Africa Bloc Representative will enable him to advocate for stronger regional collaboration and share best practices to address pressing health issues.

This achievement marks a proud moment for The Gambia and signals a renewed commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for all citizens.
