In a major interdiction, Gambian authorities at Banjul International Airport have arrested a Brazilian national carrying a record haul of 16,190 ecstasy pills and 100 more with a Senegalese at the borderline.
This is the second major interception within a month by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG), according to reports.
The DLEAG officials on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, announced that Ryan Gabriel Gomes Montrol, 22, was apprehended by their Airport Command and the Joint Airport Interdiction Task Force (JAITF) upon arriving from Brussels via Air Maroc on June 10.
The drugs, said DLEAG, were discovered concealed within the captive’s black travel bag in the arrival hall.
In a separate operation, DLEAG operatives at the Amdalai Border Post arrested Abdoulie Faye, a 26-year-old Senegalese resident of Kaolack, on June 15.
Officials reported that Faye was found with 100 ecstasy pills concealed in a yellow nylon bag while attempting to cross into the country.
According to DLEAG, both suspects remain in custody as investigations into the significant seizures continue.
