In a heartwarming display of gratitude, students from the University of The Gambia’s School of Journalism and Digital Media have aided a diligent worker Aunty Haddy Jatta, the institution’s longest-serving cleaner, who dedicated 25 years to keeping the campus spotless with love and dignity.
On July 10, 2025, the students surprised Aunty Jatta with gifts to honour her silent sacrifices and support her dreams.
The initiative began in December 2024 as a class project under the guidance of Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu. The Film Studies II cohort produced a documentary, news report, and podcast highlighting Aunty Haddy’s contributions. What started as an academic exercise evolved into a movement, with the Journalism Students’ Association (JSA) launching a fundraising campaign to give back to the woman who gave so much to the welfare of the university community.
The surprise included a king-sized mattress, pillows, bed sheets, curtains, 10 bags of detergent powder and other essential items.
