The Gambia Police Force is aware of a video circulating on social media in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, showing an elderly man being escorted by a group of individuals, with misleading claims alleging that he had committed murder.
The Police wish to clarify that the matter concerns a reported case of assault causing actual bodily harm involving the use of a knife. The incident occurred on Monday, August 4, 2025, and was officially reported at the Old Jeshwang Police Station.
The victim, Samba Jallow of Old Jeshwang, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Kanifing General Hospital. The suspect, Saidou Trawally, a 50-year-old marabout residing in Old Jeshwang, is in police custody and cooperating with the investigation.
While the Police continue to thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure that justice is served, “the public is strongly advised to provide any information” that may assist the ongoing investigation.
