Foreign Minister Njie, Ambassador Ndure discuss strengthening capacity of diplomats

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, today 13 August 2025 received Ambassador Ebou Ndure, a seasoned Gambian diplomat and former Ambassador, at his office.

Ambassador Ndure congratulated Minister Njie on his recent appointment and proposed the formation of an association that would represent former ambassadors and retired diplomats.

This group, he explained, would serve as a guide to the younger generation, helping The Gambia nurture seasoned and professional diplomats capable of effectively representing the nation on the global stage.

He also shared the work plan for the proposed association already presented to other ambassadors, and formally handed a copy to the Ministry.

Minister Njie warmly welcomed the initiative, stressing the importance of working together as a diplomatic community to share experiences and expertise. He noted the Ministry’s plans to establish a Diplomatic Academy and expressed his intention to collaborate with the proposed association so that new and serving diplomats can benefit from the mentorship of seasoned ambassadors.

The Minister further envisioned that once established, the association could play a key role in delivering lectures and training sessions to foreign service officers, helping them prepare for postings abroad.

Ambassador Ndure emphasised that proper training before deployment is essential for all foreign service officers, as it would significantly enhance The Gambia’s effectiveness in international representation.

Minister Njie expressed his delight at the proposal and reaffirmed his commitment to working with the association to advance the professional development of The Gambia’s diplomatic corps.
