The GNOC has secured 50, 000 US dollars from the Olympic Solidarity Fund to renovate its headquarters in Bakau, according to a disclosure by its president.
Mr Bai Dodou Jallow made this revelation on Sunday, when the GNOC held its annual general meeting to reflect on the year 2025 and discuss ways towards progress as the year 2026 creeps in.
The GNOC mentioned this development as one of the achievements of 2015, stemming from improved governance and financial management spearheaded by its executive, a fulfillment of the promise when they assumed office.
“When we were elected, we promised to improve GNOC governance, and we have achieved tremendously,” he said, giving a rundown of some of their works and enumerating several attainments.
One such attainment was that they “improved the amount of funding from Olympic Solidarity.”
“When we came, we tried to see what GNOC was getting from the Olympic Solidarity, and we endeavoured to improve that,” he said.
He highlighted active participation in the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) games, making specific reference to games played recently in Algeria and Angola, and the Commonwealth Games, as they sent athletes representing The Gambia.
He also noted that the considerable achievement in financial management has helped clear bank overdrafts incurred before they took office and has considerably reduced debt.
