The Public Relations Officer of the Kerewan Samba Sira Sports Committee, Lamin Fatty, has officially unveiled the prize package for this year’s highly anticipated tournament.
According to Mr Fatty, the champions will walk away with a grand prize of D100,000 along with prestigious gold medals. The second-place team will be awarded D75,000, while the third-place finishers will receive D50,000.
In addition to team prizes, Mr Fatty emphasised that individual players will also be recognised for their outstanding performances throughout the competition. Special awards will be presented to those who have demonstrated exceptional skills, sportsmanship, and dedication on the field.
The announcement has generated excitement among fans and participants alike, as the rewards not only highlight the committee’s commitment to promoting sport in the region but also serve as a strong motivation for players to give their best during the tournament.
Mr Fatty added that ahead of the tournament, the committee organised a two-day training workshop at Kakuba Hotel in Kudang, supported by ActionAid International The Gambia. He noted that the sessions covered leadership, team management, conflict resolution, and fair play, equipping officials and committee members with vital skills.
ActionAid’s involvement is part of a broader UN Peace Building Fund initiative, aimed at enhancing youth inclusion and fostering peace in rural Gambia. “Through sports, peace and unity are naturally fostered,” said Fafa O. Cham, Head of Programs and Policy at ActionAid.
The Nawettan is more than just a football competition; it is social glue for communities across CRR. By bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds, the tournament strengthens bonds, promotes mutual respect, and provides a platform for emerging talent.
The Kerewan Samba Sira Nawettan stands as a shining example of how grassroots sport can drive regional unity, youth empowerment, and peacebuilding. With record participation, generous prizes, and strong institutional support, this year’s edition promises to be the most memorable.
